Aaron J. Humphrey, LC, President

Aaron is recognized as an expert in electric lighting, daylighting, controls, and energy-efficient designs, and was a member of the first ‘class’ of Lighting Certified designers in 1997. He studied in theatrical design at Bates College in Lewiston, ME (BA in Scenography, 1991), and worked in professional theatre in Boston and Los Angeles. In 1992, he started working at Colortran, Inc, a manufacturer of theatrical dimmers, controls, and fixtures in Burbank, CA. In 1995, he moved to Portland, OR, where he went into full-time architectural lighting design. In Portland, along with founding Alpenglow Lighting Design for residential projects, he was the lighting designer for  a large M/E/P engineering firm. Aaron moved to Colorado in 2001, and has continued designing for residential, municipal, and commercial projects.

An avid skier, Aaron was involved in ski racing for over 30 years as an athlete and coach, before retiring in 2015. He raced in the 1980s, when skis were straight and slalom poles had flags. In 1995, he started coaching and became a race official and worked at all levels of racing, from kid’s introduction to racing to the highest levels of the sport. Over a 20 year career, Aaron was a crew leader and official on over 180 World Cup, World Championship, and Olympic races in 5 countries.

Aaron provides more than just lighting design, he has also designed custom bicycles for two framebuilders and their clients, repairs and rebuilds bicycles for select clients, and consults on bicycle lighting products for a major manufacturer. He is also skilled at bike fitting, having studied with master fitter Charlie Johnson of Sport Align Systems.
